There are multiple reasons to maintain an active blog for your business today. It should be fresh and engaging, communicate with your target audiences and give you maximum visibility in the search engines. You can do some of your own search engine optimization as you go about publishing your posts.
Before you get to writing, identify the search phrases most utilized to find your product or service. Incorporate these terms in your blog title, content and tags.
- Write great content that engages people – visitor comments on your blogs are good interaction and technically provide the desirable fresh content that the search engines view (and rank) favorably.
- Include images with your post – name the image using your key search phrase. Images are searchable as well and will lead to your blog.
- Build relationships and links to your blog – go to the blogosphere and look for opportunities to comment with a link to your blog. Don’t be a spammer; make sure your comments are relevant, productive and offer value. Be selective. Most high-traffic websites add a “no follow” tag on your link and you don’t get credit for those.
- Interlink your own blog posts – linking a current blog post to an older post adds value for the reader and improves the value of your blog posts in search engines. Internal links should be relevant and technically correct. Relative linking is OK, but gain more benefit with absolute linking. Absolute linking means using the entire URL as your link.
Getting listed at the top of the search engines is a lot of work, but it’s possible. Think about search visibility every time you write a post.
